Celebrating the 4th of July

Cedar Rapids has all sorts of great activities to celebrate the 4th. Here is what we participated in:

The balloon glow - an event where 4 hot air balloons where lit up at dusk. It was fun to see how they prepared the hot air balloons. We were able to sit very close to them and let me tell you, it was no easy task for them! Then they blew the hot air in so we could see the them really shine! It was beautiful. However, our Hayden was slightly disappointed when he found out he wasn't going to be able to ride in them. I guess we need to be more clear with him.  :)  Sorry, no pictures they are on Ted's phone.

The Linn County Fair - We went to Central City to hit the fair. It was incredibly hot that day so some of the exhibits were shut down such as the animal barns. But we still had fun. The boys were able to go on a few rides before we headed back to the air conditioning.

Ski Show - A fun show full of ski tricks on the river in Cedar Rapids. They did all sorts of tricks including pyramids, skiing backwards, flips, jumps, skiing around the boat, and bare foot. It was fun to watch.

yeah it was that hot

Fireworks - The 4th of July is never complete without fireworks. This year we headed downtown Cedar Rapids with the Schlaaks to watch them over the river. It was a fantastic show complete with music. We were so close that we could FEEL the fireworks and had to lay down to watch them.

Beach time - We love the beach! What can I say? We are form Minnesota and miss the lakes! Iowa is lake limited!
