Our sweet Eli would be the one to get hurt! We knew this early on when he was climbing up on furniture at such a young age.
He fell down 2 stairs on Friday night complaining of pain in his left arm. Being that it was 7:30, we decided to give him some Tylenol and put him to bed. If it still hurt in the morning we would take him to Urgent Care. That is just what we did. At Urgent Care it was determined that Eli had a nondisplaced buckle fracture of the left mid-radius. From there we were given a prescription to get a splint. We get the splint, put it on, and go home. After further inspection of this splint, I come to the conclusion that it is too small and does not cover the site of injury. So Sunday, I call Urgent Care and ask about a better/longer splint. Unfortunately, the nurse told me that none of the medical providers even had a longer splint in his size so I was to follow-up with our primary doctor. Monday morning I called to set up an appointment for Eli for them to guide us in the best treatment plan for this injury. My doctor recommended casting due to his age and adventurous spirit. However, she recommended going in on Friday at a specialist clinic here in town (Physicians Clinic of Iowa -PCI). I was not happy with waiting until Friday as his arm was not fully protected. On Tuesday, PCI calls me at work and schedules him for later than morning. What a relief! When speaking with the orthopedic surgeon, he laughed at the splint Eli was currently wearing! I knew it! So glad that he took the time to discuss and address my concerns. Eli was casted, in the color he picked, just past his elbow. Eli goes in again on Monday for another X-Ray and will have to leave the cast on for 4-6 weeks. The cast has not seemed to bother him one bit. He tells everyone that he fell down the stairs, be gentle, and that he has an owie. Love him!
